Edge Profiles

A key element to consider when designing your stone counter-tops is the edge detail. This is an important factor that you need to discuss with your kitchen designer and stonemason prior to your kitchen bench tops are to be manufactured.

A client designing a “French Provincial” or “Farmers” style kitchen may choose a more detailed edge such as a lambs tongue or waterfall, while a more contemporary design is suited to a less detailed edge, e.g. 20mm/40mm arris square /pencil round edge.

Also keep in mind that more rounded edges such as bullnose and pencil round are more forgiving and therefore less susceptible to chipping compared to square arris edges. More detailed edges such as waterfall and laminated edges cost more than standard edges such as arris square and pencil round.

There are many different edge details that can be done with stone. Below are examples of the most common edges. Please note that these options can vary from stonemason to stonemason.
